It has been close to three years since we began building Valorwood, and what a journey it has been.
If you have been following us for a while, you may have noticed that we have not been posting frequently on our socials or blog. The simple reason is that we have always held ourselves to a very high standard, and that often stopped us from sharing progress until we felt it truly represented what we envisioned. We knew we could always make things better, and that drive to improve became both our biggest strength and our biggest delay.
Now we are finally at a point where we are ready to start showing what we have been working on.
The main island of Valorwood, which serves as the starting map, spans roughly 10 square kilometres. We have spent countless days and endless nights improving the foliage quality, textures, layout design, and most importantly, optimisation. The map has been redesigned from start to finish at least five or six times, each rebuild pushing the world closer to what we imagined it could be.
Of course, it has not all been smooth sailing. Along the way, we have battled some truly horrendous bugs, the kind that make you question reality. We even started referring to one recurring issue as the Boogieman. It would lurk quietly until a player entered certain areas of the map, then suddenly crash the entire engine or tank the framerate without mercy. At other times, new bugs would strike while building out new regions, crashing the editor completely and halting progress for days.
Through perseverance and far too many late nights, we finally reached a stable build. The entire map is now explorable, optimised, and ready for testing.
Our next big steps are to complete the UI overhaul and begin work on the AI enemy overhaul, both of which will bring the world of Valorwood to life in exciting new ways.
After years of building quietly, we are finally ready to open the gates and start sharing this world with you. This marks the beginning of our official development logs, and we could not be more excited to bring you along for the journey.
Stay tuned, the adventure is only just beginning.
